Why Ashton Kutcher And Mila Kunis Refused To Give Their Kids Christmas Gifts

It seems that any decision a celebrity makes is going to be put under the microscope. That include the decisions made by Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis.

The celebrity couple moved under a new level of scrutiny now that they are parents. Their children, 4-year-old Wyatt Isabelle, and 2-year-old Dimitri often bring the judgment of others in a way that most of us will never experience.

They seem to be doing well as parents but they have managed to do something controversial with one of their holiday parenting decisions.

Kunis comes from a Jewish family but she still celebrates Christmas with Kutcher and their children. There is one big difference, however, you won’t find any Christmas gifts under the tree for the kids.

“So far,” Kunis told Entertainment Tonight last year, “our tradition is no presents for the kids.”

She then went on to say how Wyatt, their daughter, was the inspiration or the decision not to give gifts to the children.

“We’re instituting it this year because when the kids are [younger than] one, it doesn’t really matter,” she explained.

“Last year when we celebrated Christmas, Wyatt was two and it was too much. We didn’t give her anything – it was the grandparents. The kid no longer appreciates the one gift. They don’t even know what they’re expecting; they’re just expecting stuff.”

The strict rule was initiated by the Bad Moms star. It affects how the grandparents and in-laws should handle giving gifts to those children. The goal is to keep Wyatt from getting spoiled with gifts again.

“‘We’re begging you,'” she told her relatives, “‘if you have to give her something, pick one gift. Otherwise, we’d like to take a charitable donation, to the Children’s Hospital [of Los Angeles] or a pet [or] whatever you want.’ That’s our new tradition.”

Kunis spoke more about the rule on Jimmy Kimmel Live. She said that they are not ‘anti-gift’ but they only get one present for Wyatt. They don’t get any for Dimitri, feeling he is too young for gifts.

Most people would probably assume that ultra-wealthy celebrities, such as Kutcher and Kunis would give their children many gifts. The actress seems to be concerned with the possibility of ‘raising **holes’ and that is her motivation.

“Yeah, we’re not gonna raise —holes. There’s enough —holes in this world!”

Don’t think the kids are being deprived. Kunis also talked about all of the fun things they have done with Wyatt as they travel around the country.

“I can write you a book on kid-friendly activities anywhere in the world,” she bragged. “There’s not one kid activity that I haven’t done yet with my child!”

Every family has their own traditions and this celebrity family is no different. The gift restrictions are one of those traditions but it does appear as if Kutcher may actually be the ‘fun’ parent.

“I come from communist Russia, where you’re not allowed to be happy, so my holiday traditions are ‘be quiet,'” Kunis joked.

Kutcher also seems to love giving gifts to his friends. This included a shower curtain with him and Kunis printed on it that he gave to his Punk’d costar, Dax Shepard.

“What a generous Christmas gift from the Kunis-Kutcher family,” Shepard wrote. “A beautiful shower curtain for the attic(t) bathroom!”
