Boaters Spot Pink Dolphin in Louisiana River With Her Pink Baby Calf

The Calcasieu River is a popular location for locals and tourists alike. Those who spend time in and around Lake Charles, Louisiana are already familiar with this area. There are a number of dolphins that are found in the region and this lucky group of boaters came across the rarest specimen of all. Pink dolphins may seem like a creature of myth but they are real and they are spectacular.

This dolphin has been named “Pinky” and she looks exactly like you would think. Those who visit the Calcasieu Ship Channel have been captivated by these sightings for years. Now, it is time for the rest of the world to learn more about these awesome creatures. We cannot get enough of this adorable dolphin. According to local legend, this dolphin has been in existence since at least 2007.

Erik Rue works as a local charter boat captain. He was the first one to report a sighting. He says that this dolphin would swim very close to his boat, sometimes lingering just ten feet away. He took pictures of the dolphin while Pinky was swimming with the pod. Of course, most people would assume that a pink dolphin is a female. However, this reasoning is not bulletproof.

No one knows for sure but Erik seems to be quite certain. He claims that he observed her during mating season and that is all the proof that he needs. He took pictures during the mating period. “I know I’m the first one to take pictures of her,” says Erik. As the first one to ever see her, we are somewhat inclined to believe him.

Of course, people are now wondering if she has been giving birth to other pink dolphins. Bridget Boudreaux visited the channel with her husband two years ago and they claimed to have seen two pink dolphins. They could not obtain any video of both of them together. She turned over the video that she was able to get to the local news.

If you would like to learn more about Pinky and the other pink dolphins that may or may not be found at this location, be sure to check out the clip below. There is even a legitimate scientific explanation for this phenomenon. Some scientists believe that these dolphins are actually albinos. The coloration of these dolphins is likely being caused by their cellular structure. We are going to keep pretending they are magical, if that’s okay with you guys.
