Brand New Tiny Frogs Discovered In Madagascar, And Their Names Are ‘Punny’

Those who visit the lush forests that Madagascar has to offer are treated to a number of amazing sights. However, this new genus that has been found there will definitely turn more than a few heads. Just imagine how you would react if you were trekking through this forest and came across an animal that was not even the same size as your fingernail. Pretty cool, right?

A group of scientists have discovered the genus. Now, they are sharing their findings with the rest of the world. A variety of new frog species were found. They are the tiniest frogs in the whole world. We cannot get enough of them. If it were up to us, we would spend the entire day looking at them. The males are particularly tough to locate.

They tend to sit a few leaves deep. According to scientists, the slightest disturbance scares them off so be sure not to make too much noise. In order to find the right frogs, it will take some patience. We would like to believe that we are up to the task. The photographs make it hard to put the frogs’ size into proper perspective. That’s why these fingertip photos were taken.

These photos allow our minds to comprehend just how small these frogs are. There are now three new species for visitors to check out: mini ature, mini scule and mini mum. While humans are definitely enjoying these frogs, their discovery is also beneficial to the species as a whole. It is believed that these frogs were in danger of becoming extinct before they were finally found.

Their habitat has become fragmented. In these sorts of environments, it is much harder for the animals to survive. The researchers that have found them are doing their best to make sure that they are able to avoid extinction. At least two of the species are going to be qualified as being critically endangered, if the scientists responsible for their discovery have anything to say about it.

Would you like to assist these frogs and help them to avoid extinction? If so, please be sure to offer a generous donation to the good folks at the International Union for Conservation of Nature. They are doing everything in their power to make sure that every species is able to live on. Take a moment to pass this one along to your closest friends and loved ones as well.
