When dogs go missing, they leave a massive void in the lives of their owners. These types of occurrences remind some of us of how lucky we are to have our pets. While some might minimize these types of experiences, losing a pet is a lot like losing a family member. It is even worse when the owner still has reason to believe that their pet is out there in the world somewhere.
The dog in this story went missing two years ago and their person would not give up on trying to find them. Kameroun and her husky have a very special bond. The dog came into her life during a very trying time. She was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and she made the dog a member of her family while she was in the process of receiving treatment.
Semper Fidelis is the dog’s name and in Latin, this phrase translates to “always faithful”. She and Semper developed an immediate connection. Sadly, disaster struck when Kameroun had to leave her California home and head to Florida for some much needed treatment. Her roommate was supposed to watch Semper while she was gone but the dog somehow managed to get away.
She tried everything in order to get him back. Flyers were posted, Facebook inquiries were made, vet places were called….but no luck. Kameroun did not know if she would ever see her dog again and that is when she decided to contact a private investigator for more assistance. At long last, she had a lead: the dog’s AKC Reunite chip.
As it turns out, someone else had tried to add themselves to the dog’s microchip. Finally, she and the dog would be reunited. Kameroun could not contain her emotions when she and Semper met again. Semper was also far too excited to control himself and he would not stop bouncing up and down at the sight of his long lost mother.
This is one of the most adorable reunions that we have ever had the chance to see. Anyone who manages to make it through this clip without having to reach for a tissue is much stronger than we will ever be. Semper still remembers his old home and he is re-acclimating nicely. She was 23 when this began. For a young girl to have the wherewithal and courage to hire a private investigator and attorney is remarkable. Shame on Petkey pets for causing her to suffer and spend her savings on fighting for her dog back because of the role they played. He was stolen and sold by her roommate 2 1/2 years ago. She was told he was lost on April 30, 2016. But on April 11, 2016 the buyer added their name to his AKC Reunite "registered chip". They registered this registered chip on Petkey pets instead. Petkey pets did not bother to see if he was chipped already. A lawyer was retained. An ex-parte, pre judgment. writ of replevin and request for a 'break order' was filed. The Judge ruled in her favor and the Sheriff's office seized the dog this morning returning him to the person who always had superior ownership rights.
