Celebrity Magazine Predicted What David Beckham Would Look Like In 2020, And They Were So Wrong

Back in 1998, a magazine article was released which predicted what David Beckham would look like in the year 2020. The prediction couldn’t have been more wrong.

The football magazine, FourFourTwo, showed an image of the ex-captain for England with a balding head, missing teeth, and bushy brows that nearly resemble a monobrow. The footballer’s famous tattoos were nowhere to be seen.

Side-by-side comparisons of the father of four are stark contrasts, especially since Beckham was named “The Sexiest Man Alive” in 2015 by People Magazine.

In addition to speculating what Beckham would look like, FourFourTwo also tried to predict what the star’s future would look like. Back in 1998 though, they probably couldn’t have foreseen a successful footballer career as well as a networth of £339million, mostly due to a number of different business ventures.

However, the magazine did write alongside the image, “Things went distinctly pear-shaped for the Man United starlet after his club missed out on the 1998 championship and he lost his entire personal fortune in the Brylcreem crash of 2005. Now well into his forties, he is reduced to appearing for England veterans’ teams alongside his fellow Fergie fledglings and reminiscing wistfully about his glory days.”

Oh how wrong they were indeed.

The magazine also predicted that things wouldn’t go well for his wife, Victoria Beckham, either. However, they did correctly predict a fashion career for her, though not exactly the right one.

The article had written, “Posh Spice, who has ballooned to 20st since her singing career collapsed, now models clothes for ‘the larger lady’.”

Twitter users were struck by the re-emergence of the image, and many of them took to social media to write out their own predictions.

“2019 is going to be a tough year for him by the looks of it,” one person wrote.

Another Twitter user joked, “You gotta admit, it’s pretty close.”

And another person said, “Photoshop was a tricky piece of software to master in the 90s.”

In addition to Beckham, FourFourTwo also made some predicts about Steve McManman, but they didn’t get right either…
