Dog Spends His Day Cheering On Runners At Boston Marathon

Spencer is a therapy dog who has found quite the niche for himself. While he is certainly a very good boy, he is also finding time to cheer on others. He is one of the best cheerleaders that we have ever seen. These Boston Marathon runners can corroborate that story. Rich is his father and the two love to spend all kinds of time together. They head to any location where they are needed.

These two live to spread joy. Spencer and Rich have been known to visit schools, hospitals and senior living centers. Now, they have made their way to the Boston Marathon. As you can imagine, the runners are more than happy to see a friendly dog in their midst. When he went to last year’s race and held a “Boston Strong” flag in his mouth, the image immediately went viral.

How could you not melt at the sight of this dog? Runners were stopping to take selfies with Spencer and we are kind of jealous, to be honest. We wish that we could have been there to see this amazing therapy dog in action. Rich provided the dog with a coat to wear during the race, so that Spencer was able to watch the runners in style and comfort.

Now, Spencer is returning and he is well prepared for the rainy conditions. He’s got his very own raincoat. Our pal is staying dry while he cheers on all of his favorite runners and the image is priceless. For the runners who are making their way through the 26.2 mile course, his presence is valuable. He lets them know that they are going to make it.

After all, that is what being a therapy dog is all about, right? Rich and Spencer are proud to serve as valuable motivators for these racers. Marathon running is not exactly the easiest task in the world and it helps to have such an active cheering section. We would have to stop and pet the dog for at least a little while, though.

Another year motivating some awesome athletes and it looks like we can lose the raincoat soon!
