There are some photos that say more than we ever could. When we see photos of cute animals who are enjoying their time together, it makes us wish that we could commission such a portrait for our own homes. Take the dogs in this story, for instance. The story behind the photo is every bit as awesome as you would expect it to be. These two dogs are the best of friends and have been there for each other for a long time.

It does not matter what has taken place in the past. These two best friends are always going to have each other’s backs. While they have been through a lot during the course of their short lives, they have not allowed these trials and tribulations to dim their light. Merrill and Taco first met back in 2014. They had endured some trying time. Each of them needed a pal.

Luckily, they were able to find each other before it was too late. Once they had been surrendered to a local shelter, it did not take long for their bond to form. Poor Merrill had been through quite the ordeal. She had been mistreated for her entire life. The poor animal was also diagnosed with a urinary tract infection. She was not going to survive without surgery.

Taco was not going to allow her to suffer alone. He wanted to make sure that his pal got all of the tender, loving care that she deserved. Dogs are certainly well known for the loyalty that they display for their human pals. However, this loyalty can pale in comparison with the loyalty that they have for one another. Unfortunately, dogs like these have a tougher time when it comes to finding a home.

Once they have become bonded like this, they need an owner who is willing to take on both of them. Taco and Merrill are now a package deal! Dog Rocket Rescue helps dogs in the San Francisco area to find homes when they are struggling to do so. They took the dynamic duo in and did their best to place them. Once the rescue posted a picture of the dogs together, the requests came flooding in.

Yesterday was a very sad day for us. Taco has passed away. He was a huge presence packed into a small package. When we adopted him we thought we would get a year. We got three. We feel so lucky to have had him join our family.

There were plenty of people who were more than willing to take on the responsibility of raising both of them. A lovely family from San Jose finally took the dogs in and provided them with a forever home full of love. Unfortunately, Taco passed away last year but not before leaving behind a legacy that will live on long after him.
