The sewer rat is not the type of animal that inspires a lot of happy stories. We typically avoid these creatures on the streets at all costs. The rodent in this story may not be your typical hero but there are people out there who care about all animals. When this little fellow found himself trapped, local residents were quick to alert Berufstierrettung Rhein Neckar.

The good folks at Berufstierrettung Rhein Neckar were on the scene right away. They were not going to let any additional harm come to this poor little guy. He was hanging on for dear life after getting wedged inside of the cover for a sewage drain. It was clear to see that the rat had gotten desperate. Fortunately, the animal finally received the help that he needed.

In a world where it often seems as if the only animals that are rescued are the stereotypical “cute” ones, it is great to see people rallying around this rat during his hour of need. The rescue group’s volunteers were not going to let any harm come to him. They realized that the rat was actually healthy, despite being trapped inside of the sewer grate.

They also knew that they had to act quickly if they were going to rescue the rat in time. His strength was running out and he was not going to be able to hang on for much longer. The rat’s portly figure made the rescue a tad more challenging than the rescuers expected, though. We are not sure where this rat was living before but he was definitely well fed.

Volunteer firefighters had to be called in, so that the fat rat could be pried free. What a hilarious image. While you might be inclined to laugh, the firefighters that were contacted were not about to chuckle. They took the task with the utmost level of seriousness. Eventually, they were able to lift the rat by removing the sewer cover.

He was not able to be pulled through the top. They elected to remove the cover and push him through the bottom instead! Their efforts were not all for naught. The rat was saved and given a chance to resume his normal existence. The volunteers changed his life for the better and we urge our readers to share this touching story with their closest friends and loved ones as soon as possible.
