Liquid ibuprofen is a common medication given to sick babies. If you have recently purchased liquid ibuprofen from CVS, Walmart or Family Dollar, this is something you should know.

Tris Pharma, Inc. is voluntarily recalling three lots of Infants’ Ibuprofen Concentrated Oral Suspension USP (NSAID) 50 mg per 1.25 mL. It was discovered that the medication being recalled could potentially have higher concentrations of ibuprofen in comparison to what is listed on the label.

As of yet, no reports of adverse reactions are associated with this recall. Tris Pharma, Inc., is saying that there is a slight chance that infants who may get a higher potency level of ibuprofen could experience kidney damage. If side effects do occur from this drug, they could include vomiting, nausea, pain in the stomach directly below the chest and in rare cases, diarrhea. Headaches, ringing in the ears, and gastrointestinal bleeding are also possible side effects.

The batch of higher potency ibuprofen medication was sold by the pharmaceutical company to a customer who distributes the medication throughout the US to various stores. Tris Pharma, Inc. has put out a release about the recall, saying that the customer has been notified and the recalled product is being arranged to be returned.

The product that is being recalled is given to children who are between 6-23 months old. US customers may have bought the product in 0.5-ounce bottles at CVS, Walmart and Family Dollar. Brand names on the packaging could have included CVS Ibuprofen, Equate Infants’ Ibuprofen and Family Wellness Infants’ Ibuprofen.

CVS: Lot number 00717024A, with an expiration date of August 2019.

Family Wellness, sold at Family Dollar: Lot number 00717024A, with an expiration date of August 2019.

Equate, sold at Walmart: Lot number 00717009A and an expiration date of February 2019; 00717015A with an expiration date of April 2019; and 00717024A with an expiration date of August 2019.
