Man Went To Adopt Pit Bull, But She Refused To Let Go Of Her Best Friend

Merrill and Taco are the best of friends. She may be a young pitbull and he may be an older Chihuahua but that does not stop them from being friends. They are the best of pals and have been for some time now.

The dynamic duo has been residing at San Francisco’s Rocket Dog Rescue. Merrill required surgery shortly after her arrival. Taco would not allow her to go through it alone.

According to the volunteers, he remained by her side for the duration of her recovery. After that, they could not be separated for any reason. Both dogs would cry if they were taken away from the other.

It is believed that Merrill was given away because her former owners did not want to shoulder the costs of her surgery. No one seems to know how Taco came to be by her side.

Perhaps their former owners had realized that these two could not stand to be apart. Once it was time for Merrill to find a forever home of her own, the most amazing thing happened.

She did not want to leave the shelter if it meant having to leave Taco behind. What an amazingly selfless dog. The organization was left to make a very obvious decision.

These two would have to be adopted together and that was that. There was no way that they could ask Merrill to leave her buddy Taco behind. Since there’s an age difference between these two, it was going to be tough to find a home that could handle both of them. From the looks of it, the two were going to be in for quite a wait. Jodi, a volunteer, agreed to foster them in the meantime.

A San Jose family finally decided to take them in. The two are loving their new home and remain the best of friends. After spending so much time in a shelter, they are enjoying the California sun.

It is safe to say that the shelter’s decision was the right one. Taco had some health problems to overcome but he was able to live for several more years.

The family has recently had to put him to rest. We are sending our deepest condolences to Merrill. It is always hard to say goodbye to a close friend. We hope that she is doing well in his absence and we would also like to send our best wishes to her adopted family.
