There are 93.8 million Americans that are unemployed! Think about that number for a second…That’s insane! One government official states that for every job opening in the country, there are 3 unemployed people. Combine those numbers with the fact that living in the United States is ridiculously expensive and you are faced with a pretty harsh reality. But a town in New Zealand is offering you a home AND a job!
The mayor of a small town in New Zealand – Kaitangata – says “We have got youth unemployment down to two…Not 2 percent – just two unemployed young people.” How do you like them apples! But that’s not all. There are roughly 1,000 vacant jobs in the town that desperately need filling. There are also far too many vacant homes. Basically they have the exact opposite problem we have in the USA.
In an attempt to get people to move to the town, the New Zealand government is offering not only employment but a home and a quarter acre of land for the mere cost of $165,000 US. That’s more than $20,000 lower than the average cost of an American home. It’s also half the cost of what the homes are actually worth in New Zealand – roughly $400,000 US. The houses being offered are no shacks, either.
The small town of Kaitangata is a quiet, peaceful area with a population of 800. It’s known for its lush, green landscape and close proximity to the coastline. The offer is so good that many Americans have seriously considered making the move. Radio NZ reported on one woman, Ms. Witten, who said: “I would love for my kids to grow up in that kind of atmosphere. Where we live [Oklahoma] it’s not safe for them to play in the front yard…a man on the sex offenders list moved in down the street, and we live in a nice neighborhood.”
In order to take advantage of this offer, you would first need to obtain a New Zealand Resident Visa. This will allow you travel in and out of New Zealand and live there for a period of up to two years, after which you will be able to apply for your Permanent Resident Visa. You don’t have to wait for the two years to pass before taking the government up on their Kaitangata offer, however; you can go ahead with that once you’ve gotten your Resident Visa. Don’t have the $165,000 US up front? No worries!
Don’t have the $165,000 US up front? No worries! The Bank of New Zealand will give you a loan at 0.75% less interest than standard. To set that up, you’ll need to get in touch with one Jill Murdoch from the Bank of New Zealand. Her number is 03 4184755. YES YOU CAN CALL HER! Sound like something you’d want to do? Act quickly; phones have been ringing off the hook since the offer was announced. The mayor has fielded over 9,000 inquiries and that number continues to rise.
