Nutritionists say that pizza is a healthier breakfast than cereal

Are you someone who loves pizza? If you are, you are really going to appreciate what a recent study has to say. It seems that grabbing an early-morning slice of pizza might just be a better choice than a bowl of breakfast cereal.

Before we go too far, it is important to say that pizza is not necessarily the healthiest choice for breakfast. It is loaded with fats and carbs, so it might be closer to junk food than breakfast food. That being said, it also has a lot of protein.

When all things are considered, including the cheese and any meat that might be included as a topping, pizza packs in a lot of nutrients. In other words, it helps you to stay full longer and you will probably have fewer sugar crashes in the middle of the morning.

“You may be surprised to find out that an average slice of pizza and a bowl of cereal with whole milk contain nearly the same amount of calories,” says Chelsey Amer, a nutritionist. “However, pizza packs a much larger protein punch, which will keep you full and boost satiety throughout the morning.”

Nutritionists are also not typically fans of breakfast cereal, which tends to be low on the nutrition scale.

Cereals are often made from grains and sugar, so they might fill you quickly but they will disappear quickly. They tend to pick you up and drop you hard, not to mention that the sugar is not the best choice for your teeth.

“A slice of pizza contains more fat and much less sugar than most cold cereals, so you will not experience a quick sugar crash,” says Amer.

Even though it seems that pizza is coming out the clear winner, nutritionists are not yet in favor of adding it to your regular breakfast menu.

In fact, you can include breakfast cereal, provided you choose a low-sugar variety and include some protein to keep you going through the morning.

When all is said and done, both pizza lovers and lovers of cereal will not be doing a victory dance. Also, consider how much most Americans enjoy these foods. They tend to eat an average of 160 bowls of cereal every year.

Some of the more popular cereal choices also tend to be high in sugar. Included in the 10 most popular kinds of cereal are Frosted Flakes, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Lucky Charms, Froot Loops, Frosted Mini-Wheats, Life, and Fruity Pebbles.

Americans also love pizza. It is the most popular fast food in the USA, coming out on top of other quick meals, such as burgers and tacos. Americans buy about 3 billion pizzas every year.

When you sum up the annual consumption of pizza, the 3 billion mark might be difficult to fathom. Think of it this way. 100 acres of pizza are consumed daily, which is 350 slices per second. The average American eats 46 slices of pizza every year.

So, I think we can say that Americans love their pizza and cereal. Then again, neither is the best choice for a nutritious breakfast. What is the best choice?

Eggs are a great choice. They are high in protein and nutrients and can be cooked quickly. If you just can’t get away from cereal, try eating oatmeal to stay satisfied.

The world is full of options and if you must choose pizza for breakfast, you can feel good in knowing that you are doing better than a bowl of cereal.
