Parents Refused To Abort Their ‘Deformed’ Baby – See Him 2 Years Later

When Sara and Chris found out that she was expecting, they knew that their lives were about to be changed forever. The couple was just starting to get to know each other. Sara decided that she was going to keep the baby but she did not know what Chris was going to do. Fortunately, the two parents were on the same page and they decided to share the journey together.

Sadly, they received some terrible news 24 weeks into the pregnancy. The baby was deformed. He would be born with a severe cleft lip if the pregnancy was carried to term. The couple was scared but they still wanted to know more. After some more tests took place, they learned that the baby would also be born with a very rare genetic condition.

The condition is so rare, there are only 15 known cases in the world to date. The 9th chromosome had experienced a chromosome deletion. The child could be born with any number of disabilities as a result. The doctor asked Sara and Chris if they would be willing to keep the baby. Of course, there were also other options available. They were given some time to mull it over and decided that they wanted to continue the pregnancy.

They did not hesitate for one second. This was their baby and they were going to love the child anyway. Brody was born in October 2016. Once he arrived safely into the world, the proud parents breathed a major sigh of relief. Sara was ready to be his mother, no matter what. These parents were dedicated to their child and ready to take on all of the challenges that come with raising a disabled baby.

The child was having some early difficulty with feeding and this is a problem that would persist. It was tough for him to recover from illnesses as well. Sara took him to numerous doctor appointments and he would need to undergo a series of surgeries. Through it all, the boy maintained a very chipper demeanor. The parents also posted many pictures of their son online.

Allow me to re-introduce myself my name is Broooo-bro. Brody (right): born with bi-lateral cleft lip and palate, a very common birth defect. Along with the BCLP I was born with a very rare genetic mutation (15 cases documented in the world!) This chromosome deletion makes it a little harder to do things that come naturally to most children. I work very hard in my therapies and have overcome many obstacles! My favorite things include: Trolls, balls, stacking blocks high and knocking them down. I have a wide book of diagnoses but show determination and resilience every day. Sara(left) : I am Brody’s advocate and best supporter. I transport Brody to therapies and try to keep my calendar organized all the while trying to stay sane. You can read more about us on www.cleftconnection.com. I feel genuinely blessed to be the mother of a special needs child and look forward to having you all on this journey with us! #specialneeds #momager #specialneedsmom #therapy #mommyblog #cleftstrong #cleftproud #disability
