Scientists successfully grew a baby lamb inside a ‘bio bag’ and humans could be next

A fetal lamb survived a trying ordeal and became the talk of the medical community recently, as he was able to continue his development cycle even after being placed inside of an artificial womb. This womb is what is known as a Biobag and the Biobag offers animals opportunities they may have never had otherwise.

These plastic containers allow a fetus to receive continued care throughout the course of their development. With the help of these studies, the Biobag is expected to offer added protection to children who just so happen to be born prematurely and give them a greater chance of living a healthy, normal life.

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is responsible for the development of these containers and they are used to circulate crucial fluids. They also mimic the functions of the uterus, amniotic sac and the umbilical cord.
