Single mom dresses as a man so son can attend his school’s ‘Dad and Donuts’ day

Being a parent is difficult enough when you have someone by your side to share in the responsibilities with, but when you’re a single parent it’s like climbing up a mountain in flip flips – can be done but it’ll be so very hard. That’s why single parents deserve extra recognition, like the Utah-based mother who selflessly disguised herself as a dad in order for her son to be able to enjoy the “Dad and Donuts” event at his school.

Whitney Kittrell shared a bit of her story on a Facebook post, “When I became a single mom over 3 years ago I made a promise with myself that I would do anything I could, even if it meant going out of my comfort zone, to give my kids a ‘normal’ life.”

However, Kittrell admitted that her “heart kinda sank” when her son told her that there was going to be a “dads and doughnuts” day at school, but he had no dad to go with him. Initially Kittrell had suggested her son’s grandpa go instead, but he had replied, “no. I want you to go. You’re my mom and ‘dad’.”

Instead of sitting it out, Whitney fully committed and dragged it up as a dad for the day.

“I gathered up my best dad outfit, painted on some facial hair, and went to breakfast with my sweet son. I was so embarrassed, but I couldn’t help but smile when he introduced me to his little friends saying ‘this is my mom… she’s my dad too so I brought her!'” she wrote.

Not surprisingly her post gained loads of attention on social media, and has received nearly 190K reactions and 102K shares, clearly resonating with the public.

Here’s what some of the Facebook users have been saying:

Well done Whitney!
