Uber Launches ‘Quiet Mode’ For When You Want Your Driver To Stop Talking

For introverts like me, there’s nothing more terrifying than getting into an Uber after a long night, only to find that the driver is super friendly and wants to make conversation. It’s not that we’re rude, we just don’t feel like talking to people – especially after having spent our evening being social. At that point I just want my bed and some mac n’ cheese.

But the good news is that soon you will be able to “mute” your Uber driver with the press of a button. The company has unveiled their “Quiet Mode” for Uber Black and SUV passengers, in addition to a bunch of other interesting new modes.

Uber released a statement, saying, “Over the years, Uber has expanded mobility by delivering new modes of transportation whenever riders need it. Today, we’re rolling out a new, enhanced set of features for Uber Black and Uber Black SUV, the original luxury experiences where it all started. If you need to respond to emails or are in the mood for a nap, make your trip a quieter one with just one tap. If you’re in the mood to chat, that’s an option too.”

Another new, and very helpful feature is you’ll be able to alert your driver about baggage, this way they’ll know they need to find an appropriate spot to pick you up.

The new feature will also allow you to tell your driver what type of temperature you would prefer for the ride.

Uber’s statement continues to say, “We know that when riders choose Uber Black and Uber Black SUV, they want a consistent, high quality experience every time they ride. With these new features and more to come, we’re excited to ensure that our riders can arrive relaxed and refreshed, wherever they’re headed.”

While these exciting new changes are great, they will only be available within the United States. There’s no telling how long it will take to install outside of the US.

But until the updates and changes arrive, perhaps Uber drivers could take some advice from George’s book – a driver who provides his customers with a “menu” to choose how they’d like to spend their ride.

There are five options: The Stand Up, The Silent Ride, The Therapy Ride, The Creepy Ride and The Rude Ride.

Clearly the man has a sense of humor so I’d probably choose the stand up ride just for a good laugh.
