Woman Dying of Cancer Asks Rescue To Find Her Dog A New Home

Stray Rescue of St. Louis is like any other animal rescue that you can think of. They try their best to assist everyone and they receive a high volume of sad requests. When they recently received a heartbreaking letter, they knew that they would have to do everything in their power to help. A woman’s recent cancer diagnosis had left her unable to care for her dog.

She wanted Stray Rescue of St. Louis to step up and provide her dog with a home. Shell is a nice dog. The woman wanted to make sure that Shell would not want for anything once she passed on. In an amazing twist, the woman’s mother was actually responsible for the dog’s adoption eight years ago. Where did she get the dog from? Stray Rescue of St. Louis, of course!

The mother passed Shell down to her daughter when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Unfortunately, she would eventually fall ill herself. She sent a letter to the rescue facility and arranged for it to be delivered after she had already lost her battle. The woman was not even worried about her own state of affairs at the time.

All she wanted was to make sure that her dog would remain safe once she was gone. This is the sort of selflessness that truly tugs at the heart strings. Shell is like a daughter to her. Of course, the good people at Stray Rescue of St. Louis were not going to turn down this request. Shell is now being safely kept in the executive director’s office until a proper home can be found for her.

We have a happy ending to Shell’s #tragic story. As most of you know, we received a #heartbreaking #letter on Monday. Shell came to Stray Rescue after her owner passed away. Then, a wonderful lady saw the news segment and knew it was time for her to adopt after losing her Stray Rescue dog Trenton, in July. She just felt so drawn to her. Wasting no time, she filled out an application and was here the very next #morning. The two of them hit it off and she knew it was definitely the right time. She says #Shell is already running the house, and that they are inseparable. We are honored to have fulfilled the final wish of her Mom, who is no longer with us. We promise she will be spoiled for the rest of her #life.

Those who are potentially willing to adopt were being urged to contact Stray Rescue immediately. Shell deserves a good home and we are sad to hear about the bad luck that she has had. Luckily, a woman who had lost her own dog earlier this year saw the story of Shell on the local news and decided that she would want step up to the plate.

The new mother hit it off with Shell right away. It was easy to tell that they had an immediate connection with one another. Loss is never easy and when we make new friends to help us deal with these hard times, it is much easier to get through them. We hope that Shell spends the rest of her life being spoiled absolutely rotten by her new owner!
