Stories like these make us wonder what goes through people’s minds when they adopt animals. It is almost as if they expect someone else to handle the job for them. Adopting a pet is about more than taking home a cute animal, it is a major responsibility that many owners are not always ready for. The woman in this story could not handle these duties and chose to lie to authorities instead.

This Florida woman could no longer care for her pet and decided to surrender the dog to a local kill shelter. When she was asked about her reasoning for doing so, she claimed that she was simply “too busy” to take care of the animal. It did not take long for the actual truth to come out, though. She was actually guilty of criminal negligence.

She finally admitted that she was flat out neglecting the animal and local citizens are reacting with the correct amount of outrage. How could someone adopt a dog and then decide that they are “too busy” to actually handle the responsibility? Now, she is facing charges and the animal has been removed from her custody. Thank heavens for small miracles.

Alexandria Drew is the name of the woman responsible for this behavior. The good folks at Sarasota County Animal Services uncovered the true reasoning for her actions. Thankfully, Richter the dog is now safe and sound. Daniel Tutko is a local police lieutenant who also decided to intervene. When he saw the dog, he knew that the animal was not being fed regularly.

Poor Richter was extremely emaciated when he arrived at this shelter. Alexandria compounded her lie by claiming that she found him as a stray. A microchip scan showed that she was not telling the truth about this either. She is now facing animal cruelty charges. As for Richter, he is doing his absolute best to recover from the trauma he’s experienced.
