Dogs Were Abandoned In A Crate And Left For Dead Near Rising Floodwaters

When Iowa residents received a flood warning recently, the manager of the Dallas County Natural Resources went to go make some checks. They stopped by the Puckerbrush boat ramp, with the intentions of closing it. The flood waters are slated to arrive within the hour. What she saw when she arrived was remarkable. There were two dogs trapped inside of a crate.

The Maltese dogs were sitting next to the flood waters and it was only a matter of time before they were swept away. They were then taken to a local animal rescue known as AHeinz57. Fortunately, the dogs were no worse for the wear. One of the dogs had a microchip and the other did not. The shelter is still investigating this incident, in hopes of finding the parties responsible.

No one knows if the dogs were stolen or if they were dropped off here out of spite. Either way, it is a good thing that the dogs were found when they were. Amy Heinz is accepting calls from anyone who knows anything about the incident. Any information that leads to the capture of the parties responsible is welcome. Be sure to give her a call at 515-333-9040 if you can provide any further background.

We cannot believe that someone would treat these dogs so callously. These dogs will have a place to stay in the meantime, though. They are going to reside at the shelter until the volunteers are able to learn more about their story. According to the shelter, they should be ready for adoption very soon. Once the animals are ready to head to their forever home, local citizens will be alerted.

While this is certainly a sad story, it comes with a happier ending than expected. Dogs in these types of predicaments do not always have the chance to reside in a forever home. Many of them are forced to live on the streets forever. Thanks to the help of these rescuers, these dogs will not have to suffer such a fate. Thank heavens for good Samaritans.

If you would like to receive further updates on the status of these adorable dogs, be sure to head to the shelter’s Facebook page. We hope that the people responsible for this are arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Let’s all do our part to make such incidents a thing of the past.
