Drunk Man Sends Injured Baby Bird To A Sanctuary In An Uber


When you work at an animal sanctuary you become somewhat accustomed to hearing unusual stories. Many of them have a beautiful ending, but the beginning may be off the charts on the craziness scale. Perhaps the most unusual that we’ve heard of occurred at the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah. After all, they received an injured bird last month in an Uber.

Tim Crowley was taking part in a ‘day drinking’ excursion with friends. They had some beers outside and the weather was nice but suddenly, things turned in a different direction. A tiny bird had dropped from the sky.

Tim realized that the little bird needed help so he sent a picture to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah. He was informed that the bird should be brought over right away but he knew that he had too much to drink to drive the bird over. That is when he and his friends hatched an unusual plan.

“At first it was a joke, like, ‘Hey, maybe we should just call Uber!’” he said. “Then we were like, ‘No, really. Why not? We’re paying them.’”

The first time they called Uber the driver would not accept but the second one did. It arrived at the sanctuary in the Uber with no other human except for the driver. The bird, who was nickname ‘Petey Uber’ is doing fine.

“Thank you to the rescuer who helped this little one get the care it needed in a timely manner and thank you for keeping yourself safe and others on the road safe as well,” the center wrote on Facebook.
