Leslie Ysuhuaylas visited a popular dumping ground for dogs in the Dallas area recently. She was absolutely floored by what she had found. It was winter at the time. Leslie was not sure if the dog that she had found was dead or alive. The Shar-Pei mix was not in great shape but the poor animal was still very much alive. They would need a lot of help, though.
The freezing weather was no place for a dog. The animal was huddled inside of a crate, desperately trying to keep warm. To make matters worse, the dog had a bone-deep gash on his leg. The dog has since been renamed Benny and Leslie knew that she had to get Benny to the vet’s office right away. As she prepared to drive off, she realized that her new friend was not alone.
He was being watched over by another dog in the area! A larger chocolate Lab had been keeping a close eye on Benny, making sure that Leslie had the best intentions for his pal. She knew that she could not allow these dogs to be separated. They clearly had a very special bond that needed to be maintained. According to Leslie, the other dog simply watched everything from a safe distance, refusing to leave the area until her friend was safe.

The other dog is now named Betty. When Benny was dropped off at the vet’s office, Leslie wanted to make sure that Betty was also given the treatment that she needed. From there, she contacted the good folks with Rescue Dogs Rock in New York. She wanted to know if this rescue organization would be willing to help out. They were prepared to help pay for Benny’s medical expenses.
In addition to paying for Benny’s medical care, they also graciously agreed to take in Betty as well. From the looks of it, Benny had been someone’s dog before being abandoned. He was described as being quite friendly and willing to be helped by humans. Without Betty’s guidance, things may not have been the same for him, though.

Now, both dogs are living in New York and have escaped the cruel winter that they were forced to survive. Leslie’s quick thinking allowed both of them to find a new life for themselves. Without the help of Leslie and the Rescue Dogs Rock organization, we shudder to think of what may have happened next. Please share away!
