We will have many relationships in our lives but for most of us, the relationship we have with our mother is at the top of the list. For a boy, that relationship seems to be unbreakable and there is a lot of natural affection involved.
There are always going to be levels of affection that are shown within any family. What may be acceptable for one family, therefore, might be unthinkable for another. A simple paternal gesture could be considered either good or bad, depending upon which side of the fence you are standing.
That fact is clearly seen with one mother and writer, Lauren Libbert. She appeared on a British talk show, ‘This Morning’ and discussed a rather controversial subject. She was defending the family tradition in their household that had her bathing with her two sons, who are 10 and 11 years old.
Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby talked to Lauren last year and she told them she bathed with her parents when she was a pre-teen. She didn’t have a problem with it.
Laren defended her decision in a televised debate about parents being nude around their children. She said: “If they’re happy with it, we’ll have a bath together maybe once a week. It’s something we all enjoy.”
She continued: “It’s something that we do in the house that’s very normal. I think it’s really natural. What can be more natural than being naked in the privacy of your own home … I’ve got a tiny bathroom but we’ll all scooch together and have a bath together and my boys are very comfortable with them being naked and me being naked.”
Some said it was inappropriate:
This is weird on so many levels – someone pls stop this #ThisMorning pic.twitter.com/C67kqEEYqs

#thismorning You can follow up the two SONS in ten years time, in therapy because of still bathing with mum at 10 and 11 – This isn't right for daughters let alone sons!!!

Others gave some support to Lauren:
Seriously what is the issue… i actually believe it instil positive body image and respect. What would you say to the many tribes of the world who wear nothing if any clothes and all bathe in the same water.

She added: “If they start to have issues with being naked, I will take their lead. We’re all comfortable about this. I grew up in this environment and I was doing this past puberty but I think it’s made me more comfortable in my own skin and isn’t that an amazing gift to be able to give to your children if one can be?”
