If there’s one thing that most of us realize about relationships, it’s the fact that you can’t be all business at all times. Having a little bit of laughter in your relationship is going to help things go a lot better. More than likely, you have enjoyed a little bit of fun but sometimes, that may go to the extreme. Phedre and NigelĀ Fitton are a loving married couple who also enjoyed having a good time but their fun lasted longer than anybody would have expected.
They had a marriage that lasted for decades. When they first met, they were teenagers and after they were married, they continued married until she was 69 years old. Unfortunately, she developed cancer and Nigel was left a widower. A few years after she passed, however, he came to realize that there was a joke she had left and it worked quite well.
One of the reasons why Nigel was so attracted to her was because of her sense of humor. Over the many years of their marriage, they shared a lot of laughs and they learned how to help each other through the difficult times. When Phedre was diagnosed with cancer, Nigel and the rest of his family took it really hard. She continued to fight the cancer for five years but passed away in 2013.
Phedre had an unusual request that she asked before she passed away. She was doing more than simply asking him to do something. She was playing an awesome prank and it would take years before anybody discovered it.
Their daughter shared how this joke came about:
“Before my mum passed away, she gave my dad strict instructions to water the plants in the bathroom.
He’s been religiously watering them and keeping them alive”
“They look so amazing he decided to take them to his new home, only to discover they are plastic! Can hear my mum chuckling.”
It wasn’t until Nigel was packing his home to move from South Africa to Hawaii that he realized what was taking place. He had been watering plastic plants for years!
Nigel shared this joke with his family and everyone had a good laugh. Nobody was surprised with the joke because they knew her sense of humor.
“When my dad found out that he’d been watering plastic plants for years, it was so funny for all of us and made us feel like she was still with us.”
Phedre left behind a legacy of laughter that the entire family appreciates. She did it in an amazing way and it will give them something to smile about for years to come.
