Stray dog wandered into a monastery, so they made him an adorable honorary Friar

If you are the type of person who goes crazy when you see dogs in people clothing, this is the perfect story for you. The story unfolds in Bolivia, in the city of Cochabamba. A Franciscan monastery in this city recently made worldwide news, for the most adorable reason. They had adopted a stray dog and even given him a brand new name. Carmelo was more than happy to be there, of course.

The monastery is appropriately named, as well. Its moniker is derived from St. Francis of Assisi. He is the patron saint who is associated with the natural environment and proper animal care.

It was only right for this monastery to bring in a new, furry friar. He has even earned a hilarious nickname during the course of his stay. The others refer to him as Friar Bigotón.

Those who know a little Spanish are already chuckling to themselves. Loosely translated, the name means “Friar Mustache”. Can you believe that they have even given the animal his very own tiny Franciscan habit?

This is quite simply one of the most adorable things that we have ever seen. “His life is all about playing and running,” says one of his fellow friars.

Jorge Fernandez went on to say that all of the men at this monastery love him dearly. He is one of the brothers and he is a creature of the Lord. The monastery has been quick to share lots and lots of pictures of their new friar in action and we are ever so grateful. These are some of the most captivating photos that we have seen in some time.

Carmelo knows when to fade into the background, though. After all, these men have a great deal of work to do each day. They do not always have the time to give him all of the attention.

He makes the most out of his moments in the spotlight, though. The monastery is constantly fielding calls from would-be visitors that are looking to come take pictures with him.

Proyecto Narices Frías is the organization that is responsible for this happy ending. They made the connection between Carmelo and this monastery when he was just a stray. The monastery is sharing this story with the rest of the world, in hopes that it will inspire others to provide homes to dogs like him. Please share this adorable tale with your closest friends and loved ones as soon as possible.
