Life as an EMT is not easy and this is something that Justin is all too aware of. After a particularly hard day on the job, he decided that it was time to receive some help. He adopted a service dog named Shelby. The two became fast friends and it was clear to see that she was making a major difference in his life. She saved his life and kept him from falling into the depths of despair.
Some know but most don’t, Shelby is my therapy dog. After I ran the worst call I could have ever imagined I struggled…

Disaster struck during a July camping trip, though. Justin and his loved ones were looking to enjoy the Fourth of July but Shelby got spooked away. She was able to slip away from her collar and from there, she ran off into the woods. No one was able to find her at first and Justin was distraught. We understand where he is coming from here.
No one deserves to lose their service dog. The family did everything that they could but they had no luck. Shelby was somewhere out there in the world and this family was not going to give up on her…no matter what. They knew just how much she meant to Justin and they were not about to lose her to the wilderness without a fight.
Justin knew that she had saved his life and now he wanted to return the favor. A Way Home For Animals was contacted after nearly two weeks went by with no sign of Shelby. Babs Fry is responsible for founding the organization and she knew that this was not going to be a very easy task. Babs’ communication skills would end up saving the day, however.
She contacted people in the area and learned that Shelby had been sighted recently. Once she heard that the dog was heading out at nights to forage for food, she immediately sprung into action. All it took was 45 minutes and Shelby was snared by her trap. The family was incredibly relieved to have Shelby back and their reaction to her return is priceless.
Shelby and Justin will never have to be apart again. Thanks to this family’s dedication, they have been reunited and it feels so good. All’s well that ends well, right? Please share this awesome reunion story with your closest friends and loved ones so that they can also enjoy the happy ending that took place here. They are sure to appreciate it!
