We live in a world where too many people are willing to believe that animals do not have the same feelings and emotions as their human counterparts. While a human and an animal are not going to have the same life experiences, they are able to share some of the same emotions. When they are forced to split up from their friends and loved ones, they grieve in a similar manner.
That is what makes this story such a special one. These two circus elephants were separated over two decades ago. Most would probably expect these animals to have forgotten about each other by now. After all, it has been 22 years, right? The elephants would be forgiven for moving on. However, the old sayings about the memory of an elephant are certainly in this instance.
The footage that you are about to see just might have you in tears, so be forewarned. Grab the Kleenex and have them at the ready. The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee is the site of this reunion and this facility has seen a lot of touching moments over the years. The clip serves as a very powerful reminder of the emotional capacity that animals have.
When the keepers watch these elephants meet, they are nearly as misty as we are. The anticipation is clearly visible. These elephants are the best of friends and they have never forgotten about one another. Once they see each other through the gates, it is on. Did you know that elephants have the ability to hug one another?
We did not and that is just one of the many moments that makes this clip such an adorable one. If you have never seen two old friends wrap their trunks around one another before, this is now your chance. If you are anything like us, you are going to have a hard time making it through this video without breaking down and blubbering like a baby.
Some may recognize this story from an older PBS special but that does not make it any less special. Please be sure to check out this video and pass it along to your closest friends and loved ones. This is definitely the type of video to send to the friends and family members that you have not been able to visit lately, so that you can show them the type of hug you are going to be providing next time.
