Giant Manta Ray Begs Snorkeler To Help Save Her Life

Western Australia’s Ningaloo Reef was the setting for an amazing story recently. A manta ray who resides here exhibited some incredible behaviors. When the ray was injured by careless fish hook placement, they decided to turn to a diver for assistance. Jake Wilton just happened to be on the scene at the time. If he had not been able to help, the manta ray would have been in life-threatening danger.

The hooks may have caused the ray to go blind, as well. “That manta absolutely understood what was going on,” says Monty. As a marine biologist who was on the same boat as Jake, he was amazed by what he had seen. The manta ray instinctively knew that the man was doing his best to save her. She sensed that he was one of the good guys. His kind nature shone through.

Jake believes that she recognized him. He is always assisting others in the area. Perhaps she remembered him from the past and knew that he was a gentle soul. When he dove down into the waters, the manta did not flinch. She wanted his help and more importantly, she needed him desperately. There are not too many people out there who would be willing to help out like this.

His efforts are commendable. Marine biologists who have years of experience are blown away by what took place. They cannot believe that the manta ray was able to remain perfectly still. While it is not entirely uncommon for animals to interact with divers in this way, the idea that a manta ray would actively seek assistance is a lot to take in.

Simply put, this is not something that happens on an everyday basis. We cannot believe our eyes ourselves. This is the sort of story that had to come with video proof. Otherwise, no one would have believed Jake’s story. To be quite honest, we would not have bought it either. Now, we cannot stop watching this spellbinding clip.

If you are anything like us, you are going to be in the same boat….no pun intended. This is the sort of clip that restores our faith in humanity. There are still a number of great people out there and Jake is chief among them. Kudos to him for being willing to dive down into the waters as many times as it took to help this manta ray.
