Ground Beef Recalled Nationwide Over Deadly Contamination

Over 132 pounds of ground beef products are now being recalled by Cargill Meat Solutions. This is due to a fear that those products may be infected with E. coli.

The Food and Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) is reporting that one person has died and 17 others have become sick as a result of the outbreak that started August 16.

If anyone has purchased any of the products listed below, they are urge to throw them away or return them to the store where they were purchased.

E. coli: What You Need to Know

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says that there are some 265,000 cases of E. coli infections reported on an annual basis by health professionals. There is also the possibility for unreported cases because people may get infected but not experience symptoms severe enough to get an official diagnosis.

Some of the symptoms of E. coli infection can include: severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, bloodied diarrhea, vomiting, and mild fever. Most people are able to recover within a week but the symptoms vary from one individual to another.

The CDC also talks about preventative measures to avoid becoming infected with E. coli. This can include proper kitchen sanitation and handwashing procedures when preparing food. Meat should also be cooked to a proper temperature. Avoid unpasteurized dairy products or raw milk. Do not swallow water when swimming.
