This poor German shepherd has had a rough go of things. He was left outside in the bitter cold by owners who did not care about his well being. When Caesar first arrived at the shelter, the dog was completely frozen. In fact, he was nearly comatose. To make matters worse, he was also malnourished. He was also suffering from a a bad leg and a bad eye.

He had worn down his teeth in a clear attempt to chew through his chain. To top it all off, he was diagnosed with cancer once he arrived at the shelter. What more could possibly go wrong for this poor fellow? Kansas City Pet Project was originally contacted by the dog’s owner back in 2016. They had told the shelter workers that they found him as a stray.

Of course, they would soon learn that this was a lie. The owner was simply trying to reduce their own level of culpability for what had taken place. Fortunately, the dog was signed over to the shelter soon after the owner’s attempt at burying the truth. Why won’t people just surrender their animals directly? Why do they wait until they have been caught in the act of cruelty?

The dog was going to need a lot of tender, loving care to get over the health issues that he was experiencing. The odds were long. No one thought that he stood much of a chance of surviving.

He needed hydrotherapy sessions just to be able to walk like a normal dog again. The poor dog was even surprised to learn about the existence of toys.

He had never been given anything to play with before. Once he started to put on weight again, he regained the ability to walk. His rehab was not finished yet, though.

He needed to finish several months of chemotherapy. Eventually, our pal Caesar was told that he was good to go. He’s a happier animal now and his prognosis is much brighter.

We cannot believe how far he has been able to come. He’s been given the chance to reside with a foster family. They love him very much and he’s even come to enjoy his “morning coffee talks” with his new mama. He still needs a forever home, though. We wish him all of the best going forward. Be sure to pass this story along to increase his chances of finding the perfect long term residence!
