When North Carolina was forced to grapple with the arrival of Hurricane Florence, a man named Mike decided that he was going to step up to the plate to help some animals in the area who were in need of assistance. Mr. Stura is responsible for founding Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue. He was willing to drive all the way down from New Jersey to lend a hand.

He brought his friends Dave and Todd along for the ride. It did not take long before they came across some animals that were in need of their help. Three puppies were located above the floodplains. The hungry, shivering puppies did not hesitate to get into Mike’s truck. Once he stopped the vehicle, the dogs ran right to him and it is easy to see why.

These dogs were just the first challenge that he was going to face, though. There were a number of other animals who were displaced by the effects of the storm. Once he was shown a video of cows who were struggling to swim through the storm waters, he knew that he would need to intervene on their behalf. Carolina is a local woman and she showed Mike where to go.

While some of the cows had already made their way to safety, there was one cow who was not so lucky. The animal could not make its way back to the porch and swimming through the flood waters in search of help. The team of rescuers was able to chase her down and put a halter on her. From there, they latched the cow to the boat so that she could come along.

As you may have guessed, getting a cow to safety was not exactly the easiest thing in the world. This clip shows the struggle that took place and we commend these men for the work that they put in to save the cow’s life. The hardest part of all was getting the cow out of the waters. As a beef cattle, she was not used to spending this much time around people.
