Restaurant owner posts sign on door after rude customer complains about special needs employee

South Carolina residents who live in and around the Greenville area are probably familiar with the Pizza Inn. While there are some who have gotten tired of restaurants like these hanging up rude signs in their windows, this is one story that is sure to make you laugh and smile. The Pizza Inn had to deal with a very unhappy customer and they went about this difficult task in the perfect way.

The customer’s salad bowl needed a refill. They decided to ask an autistic employee to handle the task but since this employee was only trained to handle certain tasks, they did not acknowledge the request. The manager even attempted to explain the situation to the customer, but to no avail. The customer was not about to let this situation die down.

They went on to tell the manager that they needed to make sure that a sign was put in the window to warn customers about the presence of special needs employees. Amanda Cartagine was not going to accept this kind of harassment. Much of her kitchen staff is special needs. Their work ethic is unparalleled and she says that they never fail to come to work with a smile on their faces.

Amanda decided that she would follow the customer’s suggestion but there was a twist. The sign did not “warn” anyone about the presence of special needs employees. Instead, the sign let customers know that all of God’s children are hired at this location. Kudos to this woman for standing up to this rude customer.

In our humble opinion, there is no reason to behave like this. Special needs employees have much to offer the world. Every dollar is not a good one. According to Amanda, there is no reason for this customer to return, unless they are willing to seriously adjust their attitude. These employees may require a bit more patience but there is nothing wrong with that. This is one restaurant we need to visit!

We would like to take this opportunity to pledge our support to this restaurant owner. Amanda was not going to let the whims of one rude customer dictate her approach to staffing and she is a true gem because of it.
