We live our lives online. Social media is an integrated part of our society, and has become a new platform on which some enterprising few can turn their dream jobs into reality. Many businesses nowadays use social media as a means to promote themselves, and some have even begun to create jobs specifically surrounding social media expertise. One such recent job posting would be anyone’s dream job.
Last week, the Royal Caribbean cruise company announced it’s looking to fill its “shore explorer apprentice-ship” position. One very lucky person will get to travel the world and record it all on social media.
“We’re looking for an adrenaline junkie who is not only hungry for adventure but also has a unique ability to capture a moment and tell a story in a simple social media post,” said one spokesperson on behalf of Royal Caribbean. “We already offer a huge amount of incredible, once-in-a-lifetime, on-land experiences as part of our cruise holidays — from zip-wires and white water rafting to walking on glaciers and hot air balloon rides. By launching this position, we’re hoping that the winning candidate will take our shore excursion program to the next level.”
As part of the job, this person will travel to Royal Caribbean’s own private island, and will also travel to Alaska, Portugal, Norway, Dubai, and Japan to capture more content. The winner will also accompany Russ Francis, a photographer and Royal Caribbean’s “Instagrammer In Chief”. Francis was awarded that title two years ago when he won a similar competition.
The successful applicant will earn £2,000 a week for capturing and posting photos and videos. In addition all transfers, room, and board will be paid for by Royal Caribbean.
To enter, you must be a British or Irish citizen 21 years of age or older. And you must post an “extraordinary travel story, video or image on Instagram” via Instagram stories, IGTV, or an Instagram post and tag @RoyalCaribbeanUK and #ShoreExplorer by March 1, 2019.
The applications will be reviewed by The Vamps’ James McVey, Royal Caribbean managing director Ben Bouldin, travel writer Nadia El Ferdaoussi, and Russ Francis.
