Scared Dog Is Dragged Into High-Kill Shelter By Family

Maya is a two year old Labrador/shepherd mix. The poor girl was recently abandoned in Houston, Texas. Her family dropped her off at a high kill shelter without so much as a second thought. Her prognosis was grim. When the family abandoned her at the Harris County Animal Shelter, they acted as if they could not wait to give her away. The animal was quite literally dragged inside.

Maya seemed to know what was happening. She could tell that they had plans of leaving her behind. That’s why she clung for dear life. We cannot fault her one bit. Once they arrived at the shelter, Maya’s fear became even more noticeable. The family did not care. They simply continued to yell at her. Eventually, they carried her inside and left her to her own devices.

"Maya will be a very spoiled princess going forward."

We can’t imagine how saddening this must be. Maya had become accustomed to having a forever home to call her own. Now, it had been cruelly ripped away from her, for reasons that she could not readily understand. The family did not show any emotion when they dropped her off. Can you believe that they had a little boy who did not seem to mind getting rid of her? He did not shed a single tear.

Once this episode was passed around the Internet, everyone began to rally around the poor pup. They could not believe that a family would ever willingly choose to treat an animal this way. “We immediately contacted the shelter,” said Stacey. She is responsible for the co-founding of a New York rescue. She has spent years working with various dogs in need.

Even she could not believe what she was seeing. She wanted to find out if there was a place for poor Maya at Rescue Dogs Rock. Thanks to Stacey’s assistance, she was able to leave the scary shelter within 24 hours. It was going to take some time for Maya to trust humans again but the good folks at Rescue Dogs Rock were willing to put in the time and effort necessary.

She slowly began to open up to her new friends, becoming the dog that they always knew she could be. It is our proud duty to report that Maya has since found a much nicer forever home. Every cloud comes with its own silver lining. We are glad to find out that Maya will never have to experience this sort of abandonment again. Please take a moment to share this heartwarming story!
