You Can Stay In A Giant Wine Barrel In Portugal And Drink Wine All Day

If you still haven’t decided on a summer holiday, you may want to heavily consider Portugal, especially if you like wine. There is a little delight in Douro where guests can spend a night in an oversized wine barrel that’s on a working vineyard.

Quinta da Pacheca is a beautiful 280-year-old wine estate, where there’s 30 meter suites, included with a circular double bed, private wardrobe, and a bathroom with a walk-in shower.

According to The Sun the suites are also fitted with skylight windows and a private terrace, as well as air conditioning and Wifi.

While you might not be a major wine lover, there is still a pretty good selection of red, white, and rose wine, as well as a Quinta da Pacheca port.

Quinta da Pacheca is based in Douro, a place which has been called “one of the most famous wine regions in the world”, and a stay can be booked for 190-205 euros, and breakfast is included.

The hotel vineyard promises guests “an idyllic and romantic setting” amongst wine barrels “providing a unique experience of contact with nature and the monumental reality of the Douro Wine Region”.

Quinta da Pacheca also added, “Unique moments of rest await for you in an environment of rurality.”

A representative for the vineyard told the Metro, “Quinta da Pacheca created the wine barrels as a bold architectural project of suites to reinforce the originality of the wine tourism offered at the site. In an idyllic romantic setting, these wine barrel rooms will provide visitors a unique experience to the nature and significance of the Douro wine region.”

If you feel that a wine barrel may make you feel a little claustrophobic, then you can still enjoy the vineyard, but from the comfort of Quinta da Pacheca’s hotel.

The hotel has a selection of superior double rooms, standard double rooms, in addition to “romantic” double rooms, which are independent of the main building.

And there’s no need to go far, the hotel has a superb on-site restaurant with a “varied and tempting menu” that features traditional Portuguese cuisine, and uses a lot of typical products from Douro.

Naturally, each meal comes paired with a Quinta da Pacheca wine.

I’m searching for my passport right now.
